A rivalry is an inception of differences, of dissensions, selfishness or of proving who is stronger than who at others' expense. Whatever the reason, there are always two sides. Good and Evil, light and darkness, heat and cold,McDonalds and Jollibee and in the local scene we have Ateneo-La Salle. Let's take UP-UST rivalry. Well the idea bumped me since the CDC is tomorrow and that's the cathartic event both schools anticipate. Apparently UP-UST has been dubbed as the "Church versus the State" because of their academic approaches and ideology. UP is very well known as a "free" and liberated university that is affiliated with any religion while UST is a conservative Catholic university under the supervision of the Holy See. It's a recent title and I respect these two titans regardless of the jeers and insults. I think they are the best representations of a torn world view today.

Clearly, they are polar opposites. Let's cut down to the chase. Society has delineated that the liberals or the free thinkers lack the moral compass because of God's absence in their lives and that they lack direction because they don't have the framework of the Church's teachings.Untrue.
Take UP for example, its a national university not handled by the church but one of the premier schools in the country, progressive and straightforward.
Why cant some people be so narrow-minded and still be anchored with the traditional norms?
It's a digital and contemporary era. I'm not endorsing UP.
Generalizing, its pretty pathetic to still see people think just in a one-track mind.
Can we not upgrade those old standards? Can we not approve of the mundane methods because we misinterpret it as a violation of the "teachings"? You can always mix both without smirching other's beliefs. Proof would be Christian rock and rap, a non-conventional lively praise and worship which is even a greater exhhibition of exaltation to God rather than the horrid plainsongs and chants , a fashionable way of conservatism, love story of an agnostic and a pastor and by the way the Bible doesn't directly say drinking is a sin, moderation is what's being implied. They won't always conform but a careful injection to the other might produce a wonder outcome. Due to these clouded judgments we are still inside the box.
We need the divine ideas and we also need the humanistic. I personally salute the modern artists who infuses both worlds where the Church is regarded and the State reinforces, together, hand in hand.
